Cabinet: C. Douglas Dillon

On this date in 2003, 57th Secretary of the Treasury C. Douglas Dillon died. Born in Switzerland on August 21, 1909, Dillon was one of 24 foreign-born Cabinet Secretaries. President Kennedy appointed Dillon when he took office, and Dillon held that post until April 1965. Dillon had previously been US Ambassador to France (1953-57) and Under Secretary of State (1959-61). His death, at the age of 93 years 142 days, makes him number five on the list of longest-lived Cabinet Secretaries.
